What is it and Why This Activity?
One of my most highly recommended activities to do any time, but especially in the summer, is going to a pottery place like Color Me Mine and painting some pottery. Not only is it incredibly therapeutic, you can choose to do it with as many people as you’d like. The price is almost entirely up to you, as you only pay for what you paint, plus around an 8$ fee. This means if you feel like having fun on a budget, you can just choose a smaller or more inexpensive pottery item to paint and if you feel like going all out, you can do the opposite.
What Can I Expect?
I am going to speak specifically about Color Me Mine, but I’m sure any other place like it will have the same process. You go in and choose the piece of pottery you would like to paint and show it to an employee who will give you some short paperwork to fill out when you must later pick up your creation. Paintbrushes and paints are provided, so all that’s left is to use your imagination, pick some colors and tools, and get to painting! You can take as long as you’d like, of course keeping in mind closing times of the stores, and make your creation as detailed or impulsive as you’d like. Finally, pick up your creation about a week later once they are done being glossed and heated. What I love most about these places are their lack of boundaries for the imagination. Feel free to go wild with your creativity!
Is the End Result Worth it?
A thousand times yes. Especially if you choose something practical like a plate, vase, bowl, or mug, I definitely believe you get your money’s worth. Not only do you have a piece of art that you can use, you also put a piece of you into it, making it more special. Also, because it is so easy to have friends join you and do this activity with many people, it makes it all that more memorable and fun. This is also why I think it could be a very sentimental gift to someone too, being as you put your own twist to useful objects.
